Irina Baldini’s proprietary methodology, Accountable Temporary Expedients (ATE), serves as a framework for navigating choreographic composition in contemporary performance. Operating through structure and real-time response, ATE strips away pre-rehearsed choreography to challenge the habitual and expose performers’ inner workings as they deal with complex psycho-physical tasks. Central to this training is a specialized card-deck trigger system —a calibrated set of variable prompts inviting makers to make immediate, high-stakes creative choices. Through intensive Workshop models, Baldini trains contemporary performance makers to embrace states of doubt, confusion, and hyper-awareness. Participants learn to treat the ensemble not as a unified chorus, but as individual provocateurs executing unpredictable, disposable formulas. By learning to work with the ATE framework, artists develop an instinctual agility required to construct intentional, non-repeatable, yet accountable psycho-physical architectures in real time.
